In two photographic series, Orbis Pictus and Wunderblock. The Dresden Collection (conceived especially for Dresden), the Vienna artist Gregor Schmoll (*1970) engages with the relationship between reality and imagination. The princely Kunstkammer’s identity as recepticle of knowledge and instrument of courtly ruling ambition serves as the ideal point of departure since Scholl’s works thematize the ways in which knowledge is created and deployed.
