Timm Rautert (b. 1941), who lectured from 1993 to 2008 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, is one of the most important catalysts for current trends in German photography. He belongs to the generation of photographers whose works opened up new artistic spaces for photography, encouraged academic interest in the medium and opened the doors for it to enter contemporary art collections.

The exhibition presents a group of younger photographers that has formed around Timm Rautert. His groups of works are compared with pieces by his ex-students, among others Claudia Angelmaier, Viktoria Binschtok, Bernhard Fuchs, Sven Johne, Ricarda Roggan, Adrian Sauer, Sebastian Stumpf, Anett Stuth and Tobias Zielony. Visitors are invited to follow the various photographic dialogues and recognise the “speakers’” different artistic stances. Their innovative works confirm that the Saxon academies are just as modern today as they have ever been.
