Picasso Künstlerbücher

Picasso was not only one of the most prolific painters but also book artists of the 20th century. Between 1905 and 1973 he contributed art works to more than 150 books. The focus of this exhibition is on Picasso’s joy in experimenting with various techniques and the possibilities of expression in this fascinating medium. In close collaboration with authors and publishers, gallerists and printers Picasso created some of the most beautiful artist’s books of the 20th century.

The exhibition shows Picasso’s original graphic works alongside the books for which they were produced.
The selection of 75 artist’s books on display belong to the Brandhorst Collection in Munich which, with just over 100 books containing original graphics by Picasso, holds one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind.
As well as an astonishing array of topics, styles and printing techniques, the visitor can also expect to see avant-garde typography, luxurious papers and exquisite slip cases. This exhibition – the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Picasso in Dresden since 1981 – thus provides an extensive and fascinating insight into a still little known complex of works by this artist.
