For the first time, the exhibition presents a compehensive overview of the poster collection of the Kupferstich-Kabinett. In the Dresden exhibition emphasis is given on artistic posters, which were created until 1914 and were used to promote business, tourism or art exhibitions. They exemplify the different collecting stages. In the second venue in Berlin, posters will be shown which were created by artists themselves to advertise their own exhibitions.
Works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Dix, Oskar Kokoschka, Marc Chagall, Robert Rauschenberg or Antoni Tàpies will be complemented by selected works by East German artists such as Manfred Butzmann or A. R. Penck.
