Der Titel „Dresdner Köpfe“
The title "Dresden Heads" refers both to the origin of the works from the Kupferstich-Kabinett's collection and to the artists themselves, because what all five have in common is that they taught at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts: Dix from 1927 to 1933, Richter from 1947 to 1967, Max Uhlig from 1995 to 2002 and Hopfe from 1992 to 2010. The host had the shortest engagement at the art academy: Hegenbarth was only a professor of painting in Dresden from 1947 to 1949.

Das kürzeste Engagement an der Kunsta
The exhibition brings together artists whose significance extends far beyond the city's borders and who are held in high artistic esteem, particularly for their highly individual images of people, which span almost 100 years. The concise selection of "Dresden Heads" will demonstrate the extraordinary quality of the drawings, but also the diversity of the positions and not least the remarkable traditions and connections within the Dresden Academy. These can be seen, for example, in the fact that Hans Theo Richter was a master student of Dix, Hegenbarth and Richter simultaneously held a professorship at the Academy after the war, Uhlig studied with Richter, and both Hopfe and Uhlig have trained a number of artists active today.
