Der Bestand umfasst
The collection comprises several thousand drawings, mainly heads, everyday scenes and animal studies, from which the artist formed an extraordinary archive of images by breaking up sketchbooks and grouping loose individual sheets according to motifs. It is now being presented to the public for the first time as part of this exhibition. The presentation of the sketches, which were primarily executed in pencil and served Hegenbarth for decades as a collection of models, is supplemented by individual works that emerged from them, as well as selected works by Gerhard Altenbourg, Ines Beyer, Ludwig Richter and Max Uhlig.
In addition to new insights into Hegenbarth‘s working methods, this results in fascinating dialogues between the participating artists about compressing impressions and ideas into pocket-sized formats and their artistic transformation.
